Security Checkpoint Expansion Project

Tri-Cities Airport is expanding and updating its security checkpoint to create a larger, more functional space for passenger screening.

Construction is underway on an addition that will become part of the expanded checkpoint area. The project will improve the layout of the security checkpoint and exit lane, creating an updated space for passengers.

Construction is expected to continue through Spring 2028. Work will take place in several phases, with temporary changes to the checkpoint along the way. TRI will share updates to help passengers know what to expect before arriving at the airport.

Project Timeline

Current Phase: Building Addition

Construction is underway on the new addition. This phase is expected to have minimal to no impact on passengers, and normal airport operations will continue.

Summer 2027: Temporary Checkpoint Changes

The security checkpoint is expected to transition from two lanes to one during this phase. With one lane available for screening, longer security wait times are expected. Passengers should plan to allow extra time when arriving at the airport.

Late 2027: Security Moves to New Addition

Security screening is expected to move into the new addition while the existing checkpoint area is renovated. The checkpoint will continue operating with one lane, but the screening and exit areas will be wider.

Spring 2028: Project Completion

The expanded and renovated security checkpoint is expected to be complete, bringing the existing and new spaces together.
